TZMI's TiO2 Review covers the TiO2 pigment industry and its major end-use markets including paint and coatings, plastics, paper and ink The newsletter provides current and timely market commentary and analysis relevant to understanding the growth and economics of the TiO2 pigment industry Regular pricing trends are presented, including a focus on raw material costs. In this issue: A special feature looking at the short to longer terms impacts of the production outages associated with Hurricanes Katrina and Rita is included. Of major concern is the medium term loss of production from DuPont's 340,000 tpa capacity DeLisle plant, which is not expected to be back to full production for at least six months. DeLisle accounts for approximately 19% of total US capacity and 7% of global capacity. Exacerbating the tight supply situation is the production outage from the Louisiana Pigment Company’s Lake Charles 140,000 tpa capacity plant. This loss in supply is already having a strong effect on the US and global market, particularly in terms of prices. Effective 1 October 2005, DuPont, Kerr-McGee, Kronos and Lyondell (Millennium) have announced price increases for all major regions. It is likely that a significant proportion of these announced increases will be successful.
The feature region for this issue is Europe. Trade statistics for TiO2 exports and imports for the first quarter of 2005 show that whilst European import ant export prices have improved in US$ terms, they have been relatively static since Q1 2003 in euro terms. Included in the financial pages are Q2 2005 results for pigment producers not included in the July issue as well as first half year results for major global coatings companies. A new regular series on economic indicators, including purchasing manufacturers’ indexes for the euro zone and the US is introduced in this issue.
