The production of titanium sponge is a small but important component of demand for titanium feedstocks. It is estimated that in 2004 demand arising from this sector accounted for 3% of global demand for titanium feedstocks. Several titanium feedstocks types are used for the manufacture of titanium sponge, including rutile, synthetic rutile and titanium slag, although the product mix depends on the production technology employed. Global titanium sponge production has historically been in the range of 70,000-80,000 tpa. |
