This raw material classification report on epoxies (U.S. Coatings Industry) includes information on unmodified or modified epoxies used for both liquid coating formulations and powder coatings. Also included are epoxy-esters, coal tar epoxies, epoxy-phenolics and other hybrids such as epoxy-urethanes and epoxy-polyesters, whereby the epoxy resin represents the major resin constituent.
Nearly all unmodified epoxy polymers are made by the condensation polymerization of bisphenol A with epichlorohydrin. The reaction of unmodified epoxy with unsaturated fatty acids, tall oil or rosin acids yields epoxy-esters. They may be modified with various amino compounds to enhance chemical resistance for baking finishes. This resin classification report on epoxies estimates 2004 and provides a 5 year historical perspective back to 1999 within the U.S. Coatings Industry. |
