| 45.02USC - Alkyds – U.S. Coatings
| Alkyds are a type of polyester resin formed from the reaction product of polybasic acid, anhydride and/or polyhydric alcohol. However, alkyds contain a third component (fatty acids or oils) which distinguishes them from other polyester resins. Alkyds included in this classification are oil or fatty acid containing alkyd resins, urea and melamine resins (when used in conjunction with alkyds), and modified alkyds (styrenated, epoxidized, etc.) whenever the alkyd is the major resin constituent. This resin classification estimates 2004 and provides a 5 year historical perspective back to 1999 within the U.S. Coatings Industry. |
