Raymond
H. Glaser, Ph.D.
Vice President
Ray has over twenty years of experience with a
strong background in the materials industry; beginning in product development
and new product commercialization, moving through application development and
marketing, to new venture and business development. Ray understands
the industry from the chemistry through manufacturing and customer application.
He combines a strategic business view with an understanding of the science of
materials.
For the past five years, Ray has been Vice
President, Corporate Strategy and Development, at Hexion Specialty Chemicals,
Inc. During his tenure, the company evolved from Borden Chemical
Inc., a $1.5 billion business that was predominately North American and had a
relatively narrow product and technology footprint, to Hexion Specialty
Chemicals Inc., a $5 billion plus (soon to be > $10 billion) global materials
company with a diversified product and technology base. This evolution was
accomplished, as an Apollo portfolio company, through a series of strategic
acquisitions targeted to create a diversified, synergistic portfolio.
Ray's primary strength is developing strategies to
profitably exploit opportunities in the materials sector. He brings an
ability to understand the business potential of science. Ray has brought
his vision and capabilities to boards of directors on which he is serving/has
served: World Kitchen Inc., The Formaldehyde Council and The Composite
Panel Association. Prior to joining Borden Chemical, Ray held a variety of
technology, commercial and management positions with GE, DSM,
AlliedSignal/Honeywell and W. R. Grace Co.
Ray holds
a degree in B.S. Chemistry from Marquette University; MSc Chemistry from The
Florida State University; and a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering Science from
Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University.
